Darvin Dewell Dyer

September 3, 1928 ~ June 1, 2016 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Darvin Dewell Dyer of Mt. Sterling, passed away Wednesday, June, 1, 2016 at 2:15 a.m. at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Hospital after a long bout with cancer.  He was born in Jeffersonville, KY to the late Dorsey Tyler and Zelma Rogers Dyer on September 3, 1928.  He was 87 year old.  

He was married to Velma Brewer Dyer Colson on December 18, 1948 in Slade, KY.  The marriage produced 4 children, Diana Lynn (John) Fait, Lancaster, CA, Lou Ellen Dyer, Burlington, KY, Collette Dyer Estes, Mount Sterling, KY and Dale Dyer (deceased).  He retired from Columbia Gas Transmission Company in Stanton where he worked as a welder foreman.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, member of the Masons as well as had his co-pilot license (which he used to cart all family members somewhere, landing in corn fields, valleys and golf courses with or without permission).

Darvin was preceded in death by Betty Joyce Witt Vice Dyer and Velma Brewer Dyer Colson, his parents and son. He was a regular attendee of the Macedonia Baptist Church, attended Pine Hill Church of Christ and Gateway Church of God.  He is survived by his 3 daughters, 2 step-daughters, Debra (Calvin) Hunt and Sandy Stone, Mount Sterling, 4 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, brothers, Gerald Dorsey (Jane) Dyer, Marietta, SC, C.D. (Lori) Dyer, Jeffersonville, and sisters, Elizabeth "Carol" Peach, Anetta Susan Martin, Lexington. This family has been blessed to have had 5 generations 3 times in Darvin's lifetime.

His funeral will be 3:00 Friday, June 3, 2016 at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals with burial in Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-3:00 Friday.
