Clarence “Sam” Rice, 73, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 09, 2019 at The University of Kentucky Hospital, after a short illness. He was born March 10, 1946 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky to the late Oral and Vinalee Rice.
Sam worked at Rockwell International for more years than he wanted to, as he would have rather been at the race track betting on the ponies with is friends. He loved playing the guitar and could always be found singing a song, as music soothed his soul. He enjoyed many things in life, but nothing more than his family, great food and a cold beer.
In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his five sisters, Carolyn (Bobby) Martin, Charlotte Hunt, Christine (Frank) Becraft, Alma (Kimbrough) Vice, and Erma (Raymond) Schultz, and three brothers, Earnest “Buddy” Rice, Lindsay Rice and Matt (Doris) Rice.
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa (Ryan) Rose of Mt. Sterling, KY, and Jill (Chris) Champlin of Waxhaw, NC, three granddaughters, Lauren Rose and Hannah and Abby Champlin, a sister, Joan (Danny) Moore, a host of nieces and nephews including Larry (Tanya) Rice, Lindsay (Dana) Rice, Gary (Christy) Moore, Sherri (David) Craft, Robbie (Wendy) Martin, Faye Applewhite, and an honorary son, Tom Ripley, of Mt. Sterling, KY.
A Celebration of Life ceremony is planned for April 20, 2019 between 2-4 PM. Following his wishes, we will gather together for celebration, to laugh, tell funny stories, listen to some Rod Stewart and rejoice in having known the sweetest man on earth. He requested you come as you are, blue jeans preferred, as he absolutely hated the stuffiness of a suit
