Clarine Crockett Higgins was born to the late Tom and Mornvi Taul
Crocket on November 30, 1911. From this union born were eight children.
She was born in Bethel, Kentucky and raised in Mooresfield, KY. In 1943,
Clarine moved to Sharpsburg, Kentucky. She made her home there and never
left until she was admitted to Morehead Lifecare Nursing Home in 2016.
Clarine was married for five years to William Young, which passed at an
early age from a heart attack. From the union, a son, Jackie Young
(deceased) was born. She married Robert Moore and was married for
twenty-five years until his death. She was also married to James Higgins
Sr. for sixteen years until his death.
Clarine raised her grandson, Tony Lynn Young. She has one great-grandson,
Anthony William Young, and 2 great-granddaughters, Jennifer Jones and Cody Jones. She also treasures her host of
step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Clarine is well known by many as Mama Clarine. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Ray Jones. She is a woman of
strength, character, peace, love and most of all a woman of God. Clarine
has a heart like Solomon and will do anything for anybody at any time.
Clarine retired from the Poultry yard in Mount Sterling. She loves
gospel music and singing. She was very active in her church, Greater
Baptist Church in Sharpsburg, Kentucky. She was faithful to singing in
the choir, Sunday school, prayer meeting and all worship services.
She worked diligently with the Friendly Twelve for several years prior
to the organization dissolving. Clarine loves to read and study her
Bible. She loved attending Bath County Senior Citizen Center and playing
Bingo.
Clarine never operated a motor vehicle and walked everywhere she wanted
to go. The businesses in Sharpsburg loved seeing her daily in the
community.
Clarine remains the oldest citizen in Sharpsburg. She is the oldest
member of her church. She is respected by ALL. Clarine always has a kind
word for everyone and has never been known to talk bad about anything
or anyone. She is always appreciative of any love and kindness shown to
her.
Clarine was featured on the NBC Show Willard Scott Birthday segment for
turning 100 years old. She has been the Grand Marshall in the Sharpsburg
Christmas Parade.
Clarine will tell you that she live a very good life and all you have to
do is pray, pray, pray. Clarine loves the Lord and she would always say,
“I’m just waiting, waiting, waiting on the Lord to come back and get
me”. Clarine’s life speaks volumes about how to live and treat others.
The funeral will be 1:00 Tuesday at Sharpsburg Greater First Baptist Church with burial in Longview Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 6:00 to 8:00.
