Elzie Thornton Prater Jr., husband of Sandy Gibson Prater, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018. He was a 59 year old native of Bourbon County, son of the late Elzie Thornton and Shirley Doris Ashley Prater, and owner and operator of Prater's Appliance.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 children, Candace (Kenneth "Bop") Black, Elzie Jason (Cheyenne) Prater and Jessica Dayle (Richard) Downey, 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild with 1 on the way, 3 sisters, Donna (Shawn) Walters, Judy Watkins and Tina (Keith) Lawson, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Danny Watkins, a niece, Tammy Watkins and his mother-in-law, Betty Gibson.

His funeral will be 11:00 Saturday at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals, Pastor Robbie Conn presiding, with burial in Prater-Watkins Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8:00 Friday.
