Albert Wayne Prewitt, 72, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away on August 18, 2020, while in the care of Hospice at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Born in Bourbon County, Kentucky, to William Jennings Bryan and Sophia Wilson Buchanan Prewitt, he was the fourteenth of fifteen children to be welcomed into the Prewitt family. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon Joseph Prewitt; his two children, Miranda (Randy) Brookshire of Winchester, Kentucky and Aaron Joseph (Erica) Prewitt of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Jacob Prewitt, Rebeckah Prewitt, Isaiah Prewitt, Elijah Brookshire, Andrew Brookshire, and Caroline Brookshire; two great-grandchildren, Dawson Clay and Brantley Dale; two brothers, Davis (Patty) Prewitt of Paducah, Kentucky and Catesby (Rita) Prewitt of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and one sister, Lillie Roberts of Benson, North Carolina.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by eleven siblings: Bryan Prewitt Jr., Emma Prewitt, Bernice McCall, Bettye Soper, Ann Wills, Eileen Culbertson, Strauter Prewitt, Roger Prewitt, Bertha Wallace, Jane Martin, and Tommy Prewitt.
Albert was a member of the Hope First Church of God where he enjoyed greeting everyone at the front door and keeping track of service attendance.
He was a long-time supervisor of the A.O. Smith Corporation, but he was gifted with many talents which allowed him to serve his family and friends proudly and selflessly.
When Albert wasn’t working, he could be found fishing at his favorite pond, hunting whatever was in season, sitting in his truck in the middle of the pasture serenading his cows, talking with friends at the Judy Store, or sitting on his porch chatting with friends and neighbors. He never met a stranger and always had a good story or joke to tell. His grandchildren will always remember his ability to make up a song on a whim, the many hand-crafted gifts he made for them and his love of the outdoors. He knew how to find pleasure in the simple things of life and will be greatly missed, but his legacy will be carried on by all those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held outside the Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals on Sunday, August 23, 2020, from 5-8pm. There will be a Graveside Service at 11am, August 24, 2020, at the Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Everyone is welcome to attend both services. Appropriate social distancing is requested.
Contributions can be made in his memory to Hope First Church of God, P.O. Box 404, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353.
