Anthony Cornelius Salvaterra

Anthony Cornelius (Corny) Salvaterra passed away early in the morning of January 26, 2023. He died peacefully in his sleep. He was 87 years old at the time of his death.
Corny Salvaterra was born on July 26, 1935 in Wilkes Barre, PA. After graduating from GAR Memorial High School he attended the University of Pittsburgh where he acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, and then later attended West Virginia University where he acquired a Master’s Degree in Computer Programming.
While still a junior at University of Pittsburgh Corny married his high school sweetheart Mildred Lois Christian on October 29, 1955. They had three children together, Neil Salvaterra (Theresa), Chris Salvaterra, and Julie Salvaterra Heinzmann (Bob). They have one grand-daughter Lexie Salvaterra.
Throughout his high school and college years Corny was well-known for his athletic ability, primarily as a football player, but also in track and field. When GAR High School closed in 2018 he still held two track and field records in shot put and javelin, 65 years later! During his college career, as quarterback for the Pitt Panthers, he led the team to the Cotton Bowl, Gator Bowl, and Sugar Bowl. He was named the MVP of the 1956 Gator Bowl.
Corny is survived by his wife Millie, his three children, and two sisters, Diamond Salvaterra Hendrickson and Betty Salvaterra Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alessandro and Gertrude Salvaterra, two brothers, Daniel Salvaterra and Nazareno Salvaterra, and one sister Marie Salvaterra Miller.
Corny was a man of deep Christian Faith, raising his family in the Christian Church and serving the Church in various leadership and teaching roles over the course of 40 years.
A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held on Friday February 3, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Rd., Moorestown New Jersey.
Visitation begins at 11:00 am and the Service will begin at 1:00 pm. Reverend Stuart Spencer will be officiating.
Pallbearers are Chris Salvaterra, Daniel J. Salvaterra, David Jones, Richard Jones, Steven Feliciano, Alan Brutosky, Daniel A. Salvaterra, and Robert Diel.
