Bert Gunnell

Bert Gunnell, husband of Wanda Fay Back Gunnell, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling, KY. He was an 86 year old born in Morgan County, KY to the union of the late John Wallace and Edna Bell Smith Gunnell, a retired shipping clerk and member of Howard's Mill Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Fay Back Gunnell of Mt. Sterling, KY; a son, Bert Gunnell Jr. (Pam) of Owingsville, KY; a daughter, Lisa Fay Gunnell Spencer of Mt. Sterling, KY; 2 granddaughters, Victoria McClanahan Park (Dustin) of Mt. Sterling, KY and Gaia Garcia of Mt. Sterling, KY; a step-granddaughter, Opal Spencer Knox (James) of Menifee County, KY; 2 great grandchildren, Travis Dale Thomas of Owingsville, KY and TeraLyn Watkins of Winchester, KY; and 2 step-great grandchildren, Chelsie Knox of Menifee County, KY and Shane Allen Knox of Menifee County, KY; 2 sisters, Maire Engle (Ray) of West Liberty, KY and Irene Roe of Middletown, OH; a brother, Bobby Gunnell of West Liberty, KY and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bert was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Delbert Gunnell and Teddy Gunnell; along with 5 sisters, Letha "Sis" Gunnell, Lillie Mae "Toots" Ross, Carol Whisman, Judy King and Anita King.

His funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals, Brother David Campbell presiding with burial to follow in Machpelah Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Doug Lawson, Kevin Ross, Rick Ross William Back, Keith Whisman and Ronald Lawson. Honorary Pallbearers are Travis Thomas, Rich Goodan and Jerry Richardson.
