CHARLES E JONES Obituary

   Mr. Charles E. Jones passed from this life to his new home on May 14, 2026 at the age of 81. Born on February 28, 1945 in Sharpsburg, KY to Roberta Jones.  He was married to Betty B. Jones of Danville, KY for fifty-nine years and was the father of three children, Taunya Jones, Ursula Jackson (Walter) and Natasha Oden. He was a graduate of DuBois High School, class of 1964, a graduate of West Kentucky Vocational Technical College in 1966 and received an Honorable Discharge from the US Army in 1968.  Following his discharge from the Army he graduated from Lexington Community College with a degree in Business Administration. Mr. Jones retired after 32 years of employment with the Gateway Area Development District as the Assistant Executive Director. He accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized in 1954 by the late Rev. E. J. Allen, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Sharpsburg , KY.
   As a proven leader in the community, he has served as President of the Montgomery County United Way Trustee Board and past member of the United Way of the Bluegrass Executive Committee/Board member.  In 2004 he received the Outstanding Kentucky Volunteer Award from the United Way of the Bluegrass.  Mr. Jones was a former President of the Mt. Sterling-DuBois Community Center, Inc., he has served as Master of Ratliff Lodge #56 and has served as the Eastern District Deputy Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Jurisdiction of Kentucky.  Governor Ernie Fletcher commissioned him as a Kentucky Colonel on May 22, 2007.  He served as a Board Member of the Gateway Children's Services in Mt. Sterling, KY and has served on the Executive Board of the Consolidated Baptist District Association.  He also served as President of the Consolidated District Layman's Auxiliary.  He along with his wife Betty, started the first AARP Chapter in Montgomery County, KY.  He was currently a member of the Ashlar Lodge #49 and was serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Greater First Baptist Church, Sharpsburg, KY.
   His mother, Roberta Jones preceded him in death along with his sisters Anna Jones and Rebecca (Greg) Threat and mother and father-in-law Gertrude and Homer Barleston Sr., and great grandson Elijah Lenox Jones.
   He leaves to mourn his wife Betty B. Jones, one sister Lillian (Damian) Gerton, brother-in-law Rev. James (Wanda) Barleston Sr., sisters-in-laws Sara Adams and Minnie (Gene) Walker.  Aunts, Anna (Fred) Mason and Nellie (Charles Ray) Jones, Sarah Riffe and Sue Mayfield.
   His beloved children Taunya Jones, Ursula Jones Jackson (Walter), Natasha Oden along with a special "bonus" son Keith Piersawl will carry his history and his stories for a lifetime.
   His grandchildren: Tristan Jones (Jessica), Kayla Jones, Aiyanna Jones, Evan Jackson, Alexa Jackson, Cameron Buckner-Jackson, Destini Chambers, Xavier Charles Jackson, Lauren Jackson, and Jadyn Oden will cherish in remembering countless ballgames and activities he attended.
   His great-grand children:  Tate Jones, Jasai Jones, and Luna Jones will always remember the neck kisses and knee rides. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins will miss him dearly.


   A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, May 21st at 1:00 p.m. at the Greater First Baptist Church, 247 Montgomery Street, Sharpsburg, KY 40374. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 P.M. Masonic Rites 12:00-12:30 p.m. Officiated by Pastor Tony Weathers.  Burial will follow at Machpelah Cemetery, Mt. Sterling.
