Our daddy reached the age of 93 years old and was called home on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. He was born to the late Arthur C. and Hattie Richards Liggett, a retired employee of East Kentucky Power and a member of Queen Street Christian Fellowship in Mt. Sterling.
He was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the ammunition ship Vesuvious. After his retirement from East Kentucky Power he lived life to the fullest, watching UK basketball, working his bee hives for honey, as well as raising a garden that he shared with family and friends. He loved to hunt rabbit, squirrels, deer, and turkey but his all time favorite was fishing. Nothing made him happier than being in a boat with family and friends.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Carlene Morrison (Eric) and Monna Brown (Don); a son, Vernon Dean Liggett; 7 grandchildren, Michael Brown (Amy), Carey Brown, Jeremy Hanna, Crystal Brown, Eric Hanna (Kara), Ashley Holland (Ryan) and Whitney Hanna; 17 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Marie Elam and Nancy Reffett; along with 2 brothers, Marion Liggett and Kelly Liggett. In addition to his wife, Margaret Howard Liggett; and parents, Carl was preceded in death by 3 brothers, David Liggett, Robert Liggett and Fred Liggett; and 6 sisters, Bessie Liter, Hazel Newkirk, Pauline Johnson, Shelby McClements, Thelma Rhea and Virginia Fritts.
His funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals, Tracy Crouch presiding with burial to follow in Elizaville Cemetery. Visitation will take place prior to the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
