David A. Catchings, age 77, passed away October 21, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling. David was born May 9, 1947 to the late Roger Clayton Reffitt and the late Betty Mae Catchings, in Evarts, KY. After graduating from Montgomery Co. High School, David went on to lead a very full and blessed life. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era of 1965-1969, where he was an aircraft mechanic on the USS Randolph--air craft carrier. After serving in the Navy, David farmed as well as worked as a mechanic. He was instrumental and deeply passionate about the Annual Special Olympics Car Show from 2000-2015. David enjoyed cooking for his family, relaxing on his deck and loved spending hours working on his flower and herb gardens.
David is a Kentucky Colonel. David was a member of the Church of God.
David is survived by his lovely wife of 53 years, Deborah Humfleet Catchings; 2 daughters Amy (Brian) Wagers of Mt. Sterling, Diana (Vernon) Rogers of Jeffersonville; 5 grand-children– Geoffrey Catchings, Seth Razor, Sydney Lane (Dustin) Robinson, Brian Keith (Amy) Wagers and Ashley Wagers; 1 great-grand-daughter Kenna Justine “Belle” Catchings; his father-in-law Elbert Humfleet and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his father, and his mother in law Justene Humfleet.
The funeral service will be Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Herald & Stewart Chapel. Officiating will be Cecil Curtis. Military Rites by the American Legion Post 22.
Friends and family are welcome to visit Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Herald & Stewart Home For Funerals.
Burial will follow at Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Geoffrey Catchings, Seth Razor, Brian Keith Wagers, John Michael Centers, Tony Williams, Van Hurst. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sydney Lane Robinson, Ashley Wagers, Richard Wilson and Dustin Robinson.
