August 3, 1945 ~ March 7, 2025 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Doris Gibson Obituary

Doris Ailene Gibson, 79, devoted follower of Christ, was called home on March 7, 2025. Born in Wales, KY on August 3, 1945. 

Doris graduated from Virgie High School, attended Pikeville College, and went on to graduate from Morehead State University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education.  She married the love of her life, Rodney Gibson, in 1964. 

Doris taught middle school in Montgomery County for 30 years, at Miller Middle & McNabb Middle schools. She was passionate about Teaching & adored her students.  

She embodied selflessness and generosity, caring & kindness. Doris never met a stranger, and could make anyone feel loved and like she had known them forever. She lived her life full of faith, & knew where her eternal home would be. She loved serving in the church nursery in years past. She enjoyed worshipping at Living Water Church. Doris daily served her family wholeheartedly, and faithfully cared for her husband. She was a devoted wife, mother, and Mimi  She had the gift of hospitality and everyone was welcome in her home. 

Doris enjoyed nature, her cats, reading a wide variety of book genres, reading her Bible, traveling, and spending time with family & friends. She loved the beach & ocean, as well as the hills of Pike County. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Rodney Gibson.  Her daughter, Kristi Gibson Spoonamore (Chris), and grand-daughter, Sophie Grace Spoonamore. One sister, Lois Christene Damron. And many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville & Sadie Tackett. One son, Chadwick Dale Gibson. And 3 siblings, Joyce Tackett, Claudius Tackett, & Bob Tackett. 

Her service will be at Machpelah Cemetery chapel, on Tuesday March 11, 2025,  at 2:00 pm. 

Pallbearers include Tim Damron, Kimball Damron, Claude Tackett, Ben Tackett, Joseph Tackett, Alec Tackett, Shane Compton, and Chris Spoonamore. 
Honorary pallbearers- the retired teachers of Montgomery County.
