Frances McLean Staton, age 98, of Mt. Sterling, KY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. She was born on April 11, 1928, in Montgomery County, KY to Charles Frances "Frank" McLean and Thelma Chandler McLean. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Perry Staton. Although they had no children of their own, family meant everything to her. Frances was a devoted sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, and cherished member of her extended family, whose lives she touched with unwavering love. She remained remarkably active, independent, and in good health, into her 98th year.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Louis "Buster" McLean (Betty), Charles McLean, Darvin McLean, Carolyn Omohundro (Jack), and Lula Chandler (Richard) and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mina McLean who oversaw her wishes to remain in her own home throughout her life and multiple extended family.
Those who knew Frances will remember her for her hardworking nature, devotion to her family and friends, unexpected sense of humor, and her deep Christian faith. She was a member of Gateway Christian Church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to special caregivers Eunice Martin, Tammy Martin, Kelly Donathan, and Henrietta Fletcher for their compassionate care and support which allowed Frances to remain in her home.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals with Pastors Bill Kilgore and Glenn Emory officiating. Visitation 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Machpelah Cemetery.
