IDA WOOD (WILLOUGHBY) WATKINS

Ida Wood Watkins. 92, of Mt. Sterling went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. She was surrounded by her pride and joy- her loving children and family. To know her was to love her.   Ida was born on May 31, 1932 to the late Ecton and Arilda Willoughby. She was raised in a farming family, married a farmer, and spent much of her life rearing children, cooking, canning, and tending a garden.  She enjoyed shopping, eating, bluegrass gospel music, Ralph Stanley, going to church and catching up with friends and family.  She truly, loved her church, Gateway Church of God.

She was known as Mom, Maw, and Mamaw to five generations and is survived by her children, all of Mt. Sterling: daughter, Carolyn Ann (Barry) Manning (her wonderful caretakers for several years before her passing); son, James Watkins; daughter-in-love, Judy Watkins; and son, Bobby Joe (Christy) Watkins.  Her grandchildren: Tony Banfield (Tammy Imel); Kristie (Gary) Moore; Erin (Scott) Holley; Ashley Bailey; Preston (Kayla) Martin; and Madison Watkins. Her greatgrandchildren: Bracken (Kasie) Banfield; Hayden Banfield; Dalton (Haley) Schultz; Addy Holley; Layne Holley; Mollie Miles; Meredith Miles; and Archer Moore. And seven great-great grandchildren! She loved her family immensely.

Ida is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Watkins; her son, Danny Watkins; her granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Watkins; her sister, Hazel Puckett; and her brothers, Earl Cay Willoughby and Chester Willoughby.

Services will be held at Gateway Church of God and officiated by Pastor Tim Cole and the Rev. Dr. Scott Holley. Visitation will be 11 am - 1 pm and funeral at 1 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
Burial will be in the Willoughby Cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Tony Banfield, Bracken Banfield, Preston Martin, Dalton Schultz, Layne Holley, and Gary Puckett.
