Jerry Penix Obituary

Jerry Niles Penix, widower of Marlene Workman Penix, peacefully passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Windsor Care Center in Mt. Sterling, KY.

Jerry was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the union of the late Virgil and Ruby Helen Crase Penix on March 19, 1944. He met his beloved wife, Marlene Workman, on a beautiful sunny day while she was riding her stick horse. They were married on September 3, 1966. To this union they were blessed with 3 children.

Survivors include his 3 children, Kathy Ann (Lenny) McGuire of Jeffersonville, Ricky Wayne (Kristy) Penix of Jeffersonville, and Shelly Lynn (Tony) Slagle of Mt. Sterling; 6 grandchildren, Madison Penix, Caleb McGuire, Christina McGuire, Bryce Penix, Cooper Slagle and Austin Penix; 3 step grandchildren who he loved graciously as his very own, Dave McGuire, Mike McGuire and Cameron McGuire; 2 brothers, Rickey Lee Penix and Michael Wayne Penix; a sister, Sandy Lou Penix; and 4 sisters in law, Donna McNeillan, Tina Penix, Beverly Penix and Crystal Madden. He also leaves behind a special sister in law, Beverly Wagers, who has been "Mamma Bev" for many years. Sherri and Ron Woodley were also very special to Jerry, who he thought of as his children. In addition to his wife and parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a sister, Candy Stafford; 2 sisters in law, Jennie Workman and Nancy Workman; and a brother in law, Freddie Workman.

Jerry lived a full life and embraced it with open arms. He was never seen without a smile on his face and a love for the world. He was a retired truck driver, who enjoyed traveling and seeing the sites. After retirement, he enjoyed working at Twin Knobs Campground with his beloved wife.

His funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 22, 2023 at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals, Keith McGuire presiding with burial to follow in Myers Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the funeral home.

In honor of Jerry and his love for the Cincinnati Reds, the family asks that everyone wears red to the visitation and funeral services.
