Joseph Reed Obituary

Joseph Reed was born December 4,1977. He prematurely passed June 26, 2021. Joey is a Montgomery County High School graduate, Class of 1997. Joey never met a stranger, everyone he met was a friend. In his 24 years working at UPS, Joey touched the lives of hundreds if not thousands of others. He greeted every customer with his trademark smile and a genuine “How’s it going?”. As important as his job and recreation were to him, above all Joey was a kind, caring, loving father to his five children. He was a very involved and hands on father. Joey was also a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, boating, traveling, grilling and anything that involves nature. He spent his free time fishing for Muskie, being a Muskie guide, hunting, and having fun on the lake. Joey leaves behind family, several close friends, and a heart broken community. He was preceded in death by his father, Vincil Reed, and grandparents: Frank and Mildred Reed and Cleo and Dolly Strange. He is survived by his children: Canaan,18; Callie,17; Mylee,12; Maddox,9; Trapp,7.  He is also survived by his mother Kathy Reed; his brother Justin Reed; two nephews, Jackson and Forrest Reed. Joey was also a mentor and role model to Will, Ford, Annie and John Ryan Steger, the children of his loved significant other Jenifer Roberts Steger, and is also survived by his children’s mother Brittany Reed; his father-in-law Maverick Matthews; as well as several nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly.

Pallbearers will be: Justin Reed, Canaan Reed, Kelly Helton, Jackson Reed, Jason Whaley, Nathan Shortridge, Maverick Matthews, Scott Salchi, Anthony Smith, Scotty Ingram, William Strange, Jason Shortridge and William Steger

His funeral will be 10:00 Friday at Gateway Christian Church, Pastor Bill Kilgore presiding.  Visitation is 5:30-10:00 Thursday at the church.  Arrangements are entrusted to Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals.
