Joyce (Howard) Caudill

Joyce (Howard) Caudill of Morehead, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at age 81 after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Ada (Helton) Howard. She was the loving mother of Judy Alcorn of South Lebanon, Ohio, Tommy Caudill of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Terry Caudill of Morehead, Kentucky, and their spouses Freddie Alcorn, Dianne Caudill, and Rhea Caudill. She was survived by her brother Paul Howard, sister Geraldine Skaggs, and sister Edith Williams. She was predeceased by her son Jimmy Caudill, brothers Arnett Howard and Lloyd Lawson Howard, sisters Zella Isaac, Ella Mae Howard, and Margaret Arnett, and grandson Brandon Caudill. 

Perhaps Joyce’s greatest joy was being the proud, devoted Mamaw of nine grandchildren: the late Brandon Caudill, James Caudill, Jessica Caudill, Katelynn Alcorn, Kariss Alcorn-Reardon (Andy), Kiley Alcorn, Tyler Caudill, Hannah Caudill, Alex Caudill, and Jonathan Caudill. She was the adoring Grandmother of four great-grandchildren: Jayla Caudill, Xander Caudill, Kaiden Amen, and Thoth Amen Jr.

She was a devout Christian and a member of the Solid Rock Apostolic Church in Morehead, Kentucky. When she was able, she enjoyed attending services every possible opportunity. She loved to testify all of the blessings God gave her, and was proud to make homemade fudge and peanut brittle to support the church bake sales. Joyce was always prepared to quote the Bible and share God’s teachings with those around her.

Joyce was a talented cook and found joy in making sure each of her family members left with a full stomach and a smile on their faces. Her family will miss her famous biscuits and gravy that she would make for breakfast each time she stayed over. She was happiest when spending time with her children and their families, and always made time each day to call her loved ones.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Herald and Stewart Home for Funerals, Pastor Daniel Carter presiding with burial to follow at Machpelah Cemetery. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The pallbearers are: James Caudill, Jonathan Caudill, Andy Reardon, Bill Arnett, Roy Chen and Jeff Alcorn.
