Lewis Tufano Obituary

Lewis "Louie" Tufano was born the eldest of eight children in Lex, West Virginia.  Lewis was an Army WWII veteran stationed in Germany where he performed as a Motor Pool Technician.  He was a member of Ball Branch Old Regular Baptist Church and a member of both the Frenchburg and Montgomery County Masonic Lodges.  Lewis was a community activist and remained politically active in Montgomery County throughout his life.  He established the Young Republicans Party of Montgomery County and was the first mayor of Jeffersonville.  He served as an election precinct volunteer for decades.  He was also a former Montgomery County Schoolboard member.  He was the former Foreman of Columbia Gulf Transmission Company, the position from which he retired.  He was also a small businessman who owned an electronic repair service in Jeffersonville as well as a country store located at 460 and Hawkins Branch.  Following his retirement at 55 he became an avid farmer and gardener.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, William Tufano and Goldie Kennedy Tufano, his siblings, Andrew "Jack" Tufano, William "Bill Jr." Tufano, Carl Tufono, Noah Tufono, and Mary Tufano Juett, his son, David Lewis Tufano, and his grandson, Scott (Teresa) Tufano.  He was followed in death by his wife of 69 years, Ruby Ballard Tufano.

Survivors include his siblings, Elizabeth Tufano Barker, Charlie Tufono, two sons, Danny (Regina) Tufano, and Donald (Kathy) Tufano, one granddaughter, Candice Tufano, one grandson, William Albert Lewis "Walt" Tufano, and one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Tufano.

His funeral will be 1:00 Friday at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals, Pastor Roger Hicks presiding, with burial in Lovely Amburgey Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5-8:00 Thursday.
