Lonnie Hon Obituary

Lonnie Dean Hon of Stanford, KY, passed away at Baptist Health in Lexington of July 11, 2020.  He was born on November 18, 1949 in Mount Sterling, KY to James and Mildred Hon.  He graduated from Montgomery county High School in 1967 and attained his degree in drafting and design from the Central Kentucky area Vocational School in 1969.  He worked for over 20 years as a draftsman and inspector in the gas and pipeline industry, including tenures at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Newport News, VA, working on the piping systems of aircraft carriers and submarines for the U.S. Army and the Delta Natural Gas Company in Winchester, KY.  In 1970 Lonnie married Sandra Shortridge, and they had two sons, Dustin and Nicholas.

Aside from his commended mechanical drawings, Lonnie was an avid collector of model classic vehicles and trains, and was know for his expansive model railroad builds.  He was also a Civil War enthusiast and lifelong fan of stockcar racing and baseball.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and two half-sisters: Phyllis Pelfrey and Glenna Potter.  He is survived by his sons, Dustin (Brandi) Hon of Stanford, KY and Nicholas (Sarah) Hon of Richmond, KY, as well as two grandsons, Wyatt and Lawson Hon of Stanford.

His funeral will be 2:00 Friday at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals, Pastor Lloyd Latimer presiding, with burial in Machpelah Cemetery.  Friends may call from 12-2:00 Friday.
