MARTIN HARTSHORN Obituary

Martin Richard Hartshorn, beloved son, husband, brother and uncle, passed away at age 74 on Friday, July 18, 2025, after a long illness. He was born on Friday, October 13, 1950, in Mt. Pleasant, MI to the late Harvey and Phyllis Hartshorn. Martin worked many jobs but his favorite, for over 20 years, was the American Red Cross where he retired in 2014. He transported the disabled and elderly to appointments or delivered meals to those in need in Lexington, KY. He became their friend over the years and they looked forward to seeing him. For such a big guy, Martin had a heart of gold. Martin’s interest and hobbies tended to lie in the unusual. From gems to coins and collectible, to fossils and beyond, you never knew what would catch his eye next. Most weekends you would find Martin at a flea market, selling everything from baseball cards, comic books, toys, coins and more. Martin was also an avid reader of adventure, suspense, American history and science fiction.

Martin is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Hartshorn; sister, Becky Elkins; nephew Scott Littrell (Laura); niece, Katie Littrell (John); great-nephews, Andrew Littrell, Blake Littrell and Caleb Littrell.

A celebration of Martin’s life is scheduled between 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Central Baptist Church, Winchester, KY.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Red Cross in Lexington, KY.

Arrangements entrust to the care of Herald & Stewart Home For Funerals, 1002 Woodford Drive, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353.
