Rodney Dale Gibson, 78, was called home by the Lord, on July 18, 2025. Born in Wales, KY, on September 2, 1946. He was a devoted Husband, Father and Pappy.
Rodney graduated from Virgie High School. Then obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Rank 1 degrees in Education from Morehead State University. He taught at Montgomery County Schools for 30 years. Rodney served his country in the Army Reserves for nearly 20 years, as tank commander, drill instructor, and training NCO. He was called up during Desert Storm, and trained troops on Bradley and M1 Abrams tanks at Fort Knox. Rodney was married to the love of his life, Doris Gibson, for 60 years.
Rodney enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, swimming, gardening, travel, and spending time with family & friends. He could always make ya laugh with his jokes, ready to share some chocolate or a piece of wisdom, reminisce about his childhood, travel to the beach, and lived to serve his wife & family. Rodney had a deep, strong faith and was looking forward to going Home to be with the Lord, and be reunited with Doris.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Gibson Spoonamore (Chris), and grand-daughter, Sophie Grace Spoonamore. And many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe Gibson and Vivian Little. His wife, Doris Tackett Gibson. And one son, Chadwick Dale Gibson.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at Machpelah Cemetery Chapel.
Officiating is Grant Cannoy. Full Military Honors by the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post 22.
Pallbearers will be: Tim Damron, Kimball Damron, Claude Tackett, Ben Tackett, Joseph Tackett, Alec Tackett, Shane Compton, and Chris Spoonamore.
Honorary pallbearers: the Retired Teachers of Montgomery County.
