ROSETTA "ANN" (DENNIS) THOMPSON

Rosetta “Ann” Thompson, 52, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky peacefully claimed victory over cancer on  August 12, 2026, at University of Kentucky hospital, surrounded by her family.
Ann was born to the late Willie Clay “Bill” and Goldie Marie (Shuler) Dennis in Winchester, Kentucky on July 25, 1974. She was a 1993 graduate of Montgomery County High School and later received her Bachelor’s in Business Law from Mid-Continent University. After six years in love, she married her soulmate, Mark Thompson, on April 16, 2004, after which their devotion only grew. She worked for many years at  Check Advance/Advanced America, where she described her clients as friends that she came to cherish. She later transitioned to remote work to devote her full heart to caring for her mother in her final years. Over her years taking calls, she helped countless people; but nothing ever topped the delight of answering the phone and realizing her favorite contemporary Christian singer, Zach Williams, was on the other end needing help with an order. She was over the moon, and it remained one of her most precious memories.

Described as a “spitfire” by all who knew her, Ann could light up a room with her gift of gab, a joke, or her kind heart. Her three greatest joys in life were her grandchildren Michael and Avery along with her grand-dog, Nala, her children Brittany, Stephanie, Taylor and Tanner, her late Maltese, Muffin, and serving as the Children’s Minister of Freedom Church of God. A lover of online word puzzles and anything sweet, Ann was a beautiful light to her family, church family, many friends, and this world.

Ann’s honor and memory are carried on by her husband, Mark Wesley Thompson of Mt. Sterling; two daughters-Stephanie Erin Thompson of Mt. Sterling and Brittany Ann (Sean) Hammond of Jamestown; her granddaughter Avery Kimberly Ann Hammond; grandson Michael-Wesley Thomas Hammond, both of Jamestown; two sons-Tanner Elliot Clay Thompson of Mt. Sterling and Wesley Taylor (Brittany) Thompson of Morehead; her father and mother-in-law Albert and Bonnie Jean Thompson; brother-in-law Wayne Angel; her sister-in-law Stephanie Shawn (Thomas) Belcher and three brothers: Larry Ray (Marie) Dennis of Winchester, Oscar Clay (Margaret) Dennis of Mt. Sterling and Danny Wayne (Janie) Dennis of Clay City. She is also survived by a plethora of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends, including her two closest Ellen Poe and Sarah Ritchie. Ann found peace in knowing she was going home to her Savior and to be reunited with her parents Goldie and Bill Dennis, sister Rita Sharon Angel, brother Elmer “Len” Dennis, and twin niece and nephew Eric and Erica Belcher.
Family and friends are welcome to visit on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. ~ 8:00 p.m. at Herald and Stewart Home for Funerals. Funerals Services will be officiated by long-time friend and pastor Kellie Poe, at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Herald & Stewart.

Burial and graveside services to follow at Machpelah Cemetery.  Pallbearers: Taylor Thompson, Tanner Thompson, Nelson Jefferson, Van Hurst, Kenny Becraft, Jimmy Adams.
Honorary Pallbearers: Congregation of Freedom Church of God.
To honor and celebrate Ann, the family invites you to wear her favorite color, purple, in any shade though this is not required.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Freedom First Church of God’s children fund to continue Ann’s devotion to leading young children to Christ.
