Ray Watkins Obituary

Ray Watkins, of Jeffersonville, beloved father and grandfather, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on November 11, 2022 at Windsor Care Center. A native of Montgomery County born October 10, 1937 to the late Bennie and Ellen (Powell) Watkins, he was a longtime employee of the Hobart Corporation, a carpenter, mason and jack of all trades. He loved UK basketball, was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many hours fishing with his brothers. He loved spending time with friends and family, especially his three children.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tina (Wells) Watkins, seven brothers, three sisters, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, and the mother of his children, Anna Elnora (Dunaway) Watkins.


He leaves behind to grieve his passing two daughters, Demeris (Randy) Miller and Sheree Milner; one son, Tony Ray (Barb) Watkins, all of Mt. Sterling; one grandson, Austin Watkins of Mt. Sterling; two granddaughters, Kelli (Ben) Guerrant of Danville, and Hannah Hash Patton of Berea; two stepsons, Chris (Crystal) Hart of Jeffersonville, and Eddie Hart, eleven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers are Tony Watkins, Randy Miller, Casey Hill, Austin Watkins, Camden Setters and Anthony Setters. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Hill, Dylan Miles, Braxton Setters, Jamie Webb, Edward Booth, Bobby Booth, Sammy Booth and host of nephews.


Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2022 at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals. The funeral is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Gateway Christian Church, Pastor Bill Killgore presiding with burial to follow in Russ Willoughby Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Gateway Christian Church Building Fund.
