SHIRLEY MAE (CENTERS) SPENCE

Shirley Mae Centers Spence, age 79, of Mt. Sterling, KY, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the U.K. Chandler Hospital, Lexington, KY.  Shirley was born November 19, 1946, to the late Noah Centers and Esther Centers Beam. She was the proud mother of 3 sons and so blessed with 20 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren! She was a faithful Christian.

Shirley is survived by her 3 sons: Stan (Connie) Spence of Mt. Sterling, Jeff (Janie) Spence of Salt Lick and Mike (Stephanie) Spence of Winchester; 20 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Other than her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Sonny” Spence, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 17th at Herald & Stewart Home For Funerals. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.  Wednesday, September 16th at Herald & Stewart.  Officiated by Diane Markwell.  

Burial will follow at Machpelah Cemetery, Mt. Sterling.

Pallbearers: Shannon Spence, Ben Spence, Bryson Spence, Jeremy Spence, Billy Sain, Neth Jones.

Honorary Pallbearer:  Jane Prather, Nancy Welch, Macie Spence, Holly Spence, Angie White, Queena Anderson, Amanda Burnham.
