Shirley Daniels Grimes

Shirley Daniels Grimes, age 85, of Leafland Ave, Mt Sterling, wife of Larry Grimes, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, at St Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born December 10, 1938, in Pike County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Mann and Esther Lee Crawford Daniels. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Marty Mauldin, three sisters and seven brothers, and her dog, Lenny, whom she loved more than just about anything.

In addition to her husband, Larry, she is survived by one son, Matt (Jennifer) Grimes and one daughter Misti Barnes, both of Mt Sterling; seven grandchildren, Lauren (Logan) Duty, Paige (Ramsey) Finch, Tyanna Barnes (Michael Townsend), Micah (Hannah) Mauldin, Shane (Jenny) Mauldin, Stacey Wiley, and Kelsey Wilkes; great grandchildren, Ava and Owen Duty, and Addy Finch.

Other survivors include two brothers, Donnie (Loretta) Daniels and Malcolm Daniels, both of Alabama and brother-in-law, Timothy (Susan) Grimes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was an amazing cook. She made the best chicken and dumplings and pecan pies. She loved every single kid that she came across and jokingly would say that she raised half of Montgomery County kiddos at her in-home daycare. She loved to play bingo, could write a poem at the drop of a dime, but her all time favorite thing to do was to work the word search puzzle books.

Funeral services will be held 1 pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Pine Grove Church, Jeffersonville, with visitation starting at 11 am.

Pallbearers: Eric Cook, Ramsey Finch, Logan Duty, Michael Townsend, James Hall, and Elihue Shepherd.
