Valerie (Martin) Prater

Valerie was born November 23, 1961 at the Mary Chiles Hospital in Mt. Sterling, KY to Teddy Elsworth Martin and Jean Martin Congelton. Valerie moved to Heaven Friday, March 19, 2021 after extended illnesses at the UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

She was united in marriage to Alonzo Prater Jr. on March 7, 1980. To this union was born three children; Alonzo Jereme, Teddy Martin (Marty), and Linzey Jordan. Valerie was a graduate at Montgomery County High School, Class of 1979. She was employed with the Kroger Co. for 16 years in Mt. Sterling. Following employment she devoted her life to her family and referred to herself as a “domestic goddess”. Valerie enjoyed gardening in flowers and vegetables, but mostly delighted in dotting on her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a Christian and member of Jeffersonville Assembly of God Church in Jeffersonville, KY. Valerie is preceded in death by her dad, Teddy Elsworth Martin and father-in-law Alonzo Prater. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Alonzo Prater Jr., their children; Alonzo Jereme Prater III, Marty Prater , Linzey Lewis (Justin); two sisters: Patsy Caudill and Trena Patrick; mother, Jean Martin Congelton; mother-in-law, Augusta Prater; grandchildren: Ava Lynn Prater, Abbigail Grace Lewis, Alexandra Raye Prater, Karlie Elizabeth Lewis, Arlie Jase Martin Lewis; a host of precious nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins that she dearly loved along with her special fur baby, Sophie.

Pallbearers will be Alonzo Jereme Prater, Marty Prater, Justin Lewis, Damon Caudill, Zachary Skidmore and Nathan Skidmore. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Skidmore, Caroline Skidmore, and Rick Skidmore. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Jeffersonville Assembly of God Church with Pastor Robbie Conn officiating. Visitation will also be held at the church between 5 and 8 pm Tuesday, March 23, 2021. Burial will be at the Pleasant Valley Memorial Garden, HWY 599, Jeffersonville, Kentucky. Arrangements are made by Herald and Stewart Home for Funerals, Mt. Sterling, KY.
